Paul Butterfield has been involved in martial arts for over thirty-eight years and has been teaching children Karate for a large portion of that time. He knows karate is a discipline that will continue to benefit to children outside the martial arts Dojo and has spent years honing his classes to focus on:

Step 1 Self-Discipline - this skill is rarely innate. Most people have to learn self-discipline,
and the way they are taught can influence how much self-discipline they are able to exert. We
do not force self-discipline at Toyakan Higashi Karate Club. We build a student’s self-
discipline through exciting classes, group exercises and a quality curriculum
Step 2 Self Defence we do, of course, teach physical self-defence, but our first priority is to
teach "emotional defence". We know that all of our students, whether they are children or
adults, benefit from the ability to defend emotionally against the challenges faced every day
in the schoolyard, at work and in social situations
Step 3 Self Confidence - we're here to encourage our students to learn new things because
we know that learning new skills or feeling challenged to go beyond comfort zones will

We have kids Karate lessons, ranging from pre-school to teenage years. We also have classes
for adults or family Karate classes that allow you to train and learn with your children. If you
are time-poor, but still want a workout that burns calories and works every part of your body,
our Club Fitness program may be for you. Based on the training methods of MMA, our
program delivers optimum results with safe, no contact exercises. If you are interested in
learning Kobudo Weaponry, we currently teach eight of the traditional weapons.
